[OpenID board] Agenda for 8/30/2007 ...

I'd like to discuss financial governance and put a basic process in  
place. We all like to avoid surprises -- good ones and bad ones! --  
through whatever happenstance they may occur. Speaking just for  
myself, I know by experience that I sooner or later screw up in some  
fashion and I'd like the process to catch when (not if) that happens.  
And it would appear to me that potential foundation members will be  
very interested that we have such a process, even if it is miniscule  
at first (which I'd prefer).

Personally, at the minimum, I'd like to see, a few days prior to each  
board meeting:
  - QuickBooks BS and P&L reports, (or whatever the software --  
that's easy enough to do)
  - a heads-up on any non-trivial deviation from the budget

This presumes that we have:
  - a budget that is adopted, which is a baseline against which we  
compare how we did on an ongoing basis.
  - assigned "owners" of particular line items in the budget, who are  
responsible/accountable for managing those items
  - some process (e.g. "treasurer looks it over once a month") by  
which a person B checks on the work of person A.

Obviously, I'm proposing this at this time in the spirit of making  
the foundation work as well as possible, not in spirit of being  
critical of anybody. It's just one of the things we gotta do as a  
board, in particular now that we have a bank account and some  
expenses ...
