We have one Australian Digital Trust Community Group co-chair nomination - John Scullen, one of our active community members.

Everyone, could you please review John's candidate statement and indicate if you support him as an ADT CG co-chair? Please reply to this email and/or attend the next CG meeting.

At the next CG meeting on the 13th of July 2026 at 5 pm, we will table this nomination for the discussion and, if there is consensus, we will formally accept John as a new co-chair.

Brad, you will definitely be missed! We are still hoping to see you at CG events and meetings.

I am writing to express my interest in the vacant co-chair role for the Australian Digital Trust Community Group. I have been an active participant in the ADT CG since early 2025 and am keen to contribute more formally to its leadership and ongoing impact across the Australian digital trust ecosystem.
Relevant experience and contributions

  *   More than 15 years’ experience in identity and access management, primarily supporting the higher education and research sector

  *   Member of the REFEDS<https://refeds.org/> Steering Committee, contributing to global standards that underpin interoperability across eduGAIN federations
  *   Active contributor to the ADT CG since early 2025:

     *   regular participation in meetings

     *   sharing resources and insights with the group

     *   reporting back on highlights from conferences and events relevant to the group

     *   drafting and editing documents, including government consultation responses and reports to the OpenID Foundation Board

  *   Strong advocate for cross-sector collaboration:

     *   invited ADT CG members to participate in national panel discussions

     *   met with a number of group members as I've travelled around the country to understand their roles and how we might be able to assist one another
Motivation and alignment

  *   The ADT CG has broadened my perspective on digital trust, exposing me to a wider range of approaches, technologies, and sector challenges

  *   I value the group’s role in connecting government, industry, and research stakeholders, and see an opportunity to strengthen this further through active and coordinated leadership
  *   I am particularly interested in:

     *   advancing practical adoption of OpenID Foundation standards in Australia

     *   strengthening alignment across sectors to reduce fragmentation and improve interoperability

     *   supporting high-quality, evidence-based outputs that influence policy and implementation
Organisational support

  *   My organisation (the Australian Access Federation (AAF)) actively supports my involvement in the ADT CG and nomination for the co-chair role

  *   This role aligns with AAF’s strategic focus on trust and identity, and demonstrates leadership within the Australian and international community
What I would bring as co-chair

  *   Experience operating at both national and international levels in federated identity
  *   A collaborative, facilitative approach to engaging diverse stakeholders
  *   A focus on producing tangible outputs and maintaining momentum across initiatives
  *   Commitment to ensuring the group remains inclusive, relevant, and outcomes-focused

I'm writing to let you know that one of our current Co-Chairs, Brad Carr, will be stepping down from the role.

I'd like to take a moment to thank Brad for his significant contributions to the group. His leadership was instrumental in getting the ADT CG up and running, and in enabling us to take on the Innovation Day event he established within NAB — for which we are forever grateful. We genuinely appreciate the time, effort, and leadership he's invested in the group. While Brad is stepping down as Co-Chair, we look forward to continuing to see him at the Innovation Day events.

With this transition, we are inviting expressions of interest from community members who may wish to take on the Co-Chair position. We are looking for a driven individual who can help us consolidate and advance the position of the ADT CG as the voice of reason in a dynamic local and global environment.
