Are we conflating 'computer interpreted' with 'computer interpretable'?
Of course, there doesn't need to be a trade off between user readable
and computer interpretable; it is easy to accomplish both.
But 'computer interpretable' does not mean 'computer interpreted'.
There is a tradeoff between, on the one hand, having the computer
interpret the version string and make compatibility decisions based
on information encoded in that string and, on the other hand,
requiring that the computer limit itself to exact string matching.
Cordially, Joaquin
