Historically, OpenID has been a technical endeavor with intentions of becoming the international standard for identity sharing. Prior to now, it made sense to ensure that the technical and international perspectives had a voice in the EC of the board. But 2010, in my opinion, is shaping up to be the year where we look to improve adoption and usability. Technology and global reach is still important. But with the growing need for reaching RPs and making it easier for them to participate, having the "voice of the customer", as Brian stated, is equally important as we move forward.</DIV>

<DIV>There are some concerns about adding one more person to the EC and that the adoption could be handled through committees. My goal is to represent in the board that adoption is at least as important as tech and international. If that means removing all liaisons from the EC and moving those voices into the committees, that is great. If that means adding the "adoption" liaison to the EC, that is also fine. But if we really believe that improving adoption, usability and marketing of OpenID is the path to success, we need to represent that at the highest levels to demonstrate to our membership, OPs and RPs, and the public that this is one of our highest priorities. That is how our constituents get their cues on what should be focused on.</DIV>

Marketing to Adoption might be a prudent move,<BR>if it also brings with it certain criteria for success and metrics to help<BR>gauge progress.<BR><BR>I think that the "Marketing" committee was ill-defined and had weak support<BR>? especially from a branding perspective where there is still no agreement<BR>on how important OpenID is a consumer brand.<BR><BR>As such, I can see how the first priority should be Adoption, which could<BR>include pushing for the test suite and improving the libraries, which would<BR>be followed by a more rigorous marketing approach.<BR><BR>Otherwise, I agree with focusing on committees, but I also think that we<BR>need to come up with a better approach to encourage progress within the<BR>committees, and for them to report their progress on the openid.net website<BR>and lists. I think we've done a poor job communicating with the outside<BR>world what is going on with OpenID ? and participation on these lists alone<BR>does not
