1. Preparing for September 13 Summit and Interop in Mountain View and Subsequent Events

There was positive feedback to the OpenID Connect proposal at the meeting in Colorado. John raised the possibility of using directed funding to have Andrew Arnott add OpenID Connect support to DotNetOpenAuth and using it as a test harness. Having a "middle class" of IdPs test against test harness will help confirm that they will work with RP providers such as JanRain and Gigya.

Other events planned are an OpenID Summit October 17 (the Monday before IIW) - location yet to be confirmed but tentatively Facebook, and a November 30th or December 1st summit in Tokyo. We decided to move any European event to early 2012, rather than holding it in London alongside RSA, as had been previously discussed.

Three possible tracks for the September 13th summit were proposed by Eric Sachs: finalizing specs, interop between IdP and RP vendors, legal stuff, including for an "account chooser".

Mike said that the key to having successful interop is having a core of committed implementers and defining a set of interop scenarios up front that people are coding to in advance.

Eric suggested having a second day on September 14th for web sites wanting to become RPs. He shared a draft proposal for this in the spreadsheet at https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmRF6Ca-4HNndEFRTTI1ODl6WURtaGVITDV0VEs2NXc&hl=en_US#gid=0. Tony asked whether it would be difficult to have the event split across two facilities. Eric agreed to work on logistics issues with Tony. Several agreed that we shouldn't overly focus on NSTIC, as the government work has been more of a distraction than a help, to date.

Eric has a list of 30 companies who are bugging him about learning about OpenID Connect. They are potential participants on the second day. Eric agreed to be the one inviting people to and organizing the second day. Allen is going to Gigya to talk with them about OpenID Connect today.

Eric talked about the possibility of having a "noise" group - a plenary group of select members for NSTIC. SDOs would be key members and would engage in the governance discussion. Jeremy Grant has asked us to help them have a successful event in September.

Mike asked what the NSTIC discussion has to do with our event. Eric and John responded that we can have an NSTIC Steering group meeting during dinner on the second day but that our event will not become an NSTIC event.

We talked about having votes for implementer's drafts after the September feedback. We wondered about the timing of this relative to IIW and the pre-IIW summit. We need to develop a workback and plan for the implementers draft vote. Nat said that an implementer's draft vote takes 45 days and a final draft vote takes 60 days.

We talked about how to use the pre-IIW event (which is probably at Facebook). This might be an invite-only event to flesh out spec issues. Mike questioned whether we don't want instead to take advantage of the fact that many people are in town for IIW and have a more public, educational, promotional event. John agreed.

The event in Japan is likely to have two days - one for implementers and one for deployers.

We discussed the possibility of refreshing the openid.net web site in time for IIW. Chris Messina agreed to look into this.

Don and Allen will institute launch planning calls that are separate from the spec calls.

John Bradley and Don are working on updating the content on the openidconnect.com web site.
