It's time for us to put together the materials for the next community board election. Here are some materials to start with from the previous election:

*        Election announcement:  http://openid.net/2009/11/11/community-board-member-election-announcement/

*        Information for candidates:  http://openid.net/2009/11/11/information-for-all-considering-running-for-the-board/

* The election FAQ from the previous election is attached (and also posted at http://wiki.openid.net/Elections).

* Announcement of election results: http://openid.net/2009/12/31/openid-foundation-board-update-expanded-representation/

Three candidates were elected to 2-year terms last year, and so are not standing for election:

*        Brian Kissel

*        Marc Frons

*        Allen Tom

All these community board members will need to seek re-election, should they want to continue serving on the board:

*        Nat Sakimura

*        Chris Messina

*        David Recordon

*        Joseph Smarr

*        Daniel Jacobson

*        John Bradley

*        Dick Hardt

*        Robert Harles

The executive director should report on the number of sponsor members that will be on the board on January 1st. If that number is N, then we will be electing N-2 community members (since there are N+1 community members and 3 are serving 2-year terms). Furthermore, the N/2 candidates receiving the most votes will be elected to 2-year terms. The remainder will be elected to 1-year terms. (N is currently 10.)

Don, can you work towards producing a draft election announcement for review by the elections committee?

Finally, I'll state that the executive committee thought it would be a good idea for us to produce a set of questions to put to candidates for the board. These could include their view of the mission of OpenID, the opportunities they see for the foundation, their intended level involvement and commitment, what they'd like to see accomplished over the next year, and how they personally plan to make these things happen. Hopefully the candidates will address these questions in their election statements. The elections committee should also be working on these to include in the election announcement.

Hopefully we can announce the election before the upcoming OpenID Summit and IIW so as to recruit great candidates at those events.

                                                            -- Mike
